Sex: God, Gross, Gift

In the 6th sermon from Real Marriage by Pastor Mark Driscoll; Elevation Church turned the page within the book entitled Real Marriage on the relational, cultural, and relevant hot topic of sex. For those who would diminish the significance of this topic and allow people to just find out how men and women relate by trail and error, or getting clues of sex from culture would be falling short of the genuine truth of how beautiful God has created sex to be within the constraints and restraint of a convent marriage between a man and a woman. The perversion of sex within our lives, and overall within culture becomes both a idol and act of worship. Sex therefore can be a 'god' to be looked to as the highest form of human contact and meaning. It can be a 'gross' topic hidden behind conflicting messages of religion and fear. However, from a Biblical perspective, sex is a 'gift' from God for a husband and wife to enjoy within a covenant honoring marriage. Taking Out the Trash

Imagine leaving your trash can unattended! Wow, what a smell that would be. However, some of our relationships, especially within marriage can be ignoring and apathetic of taking the trash out that can stink and stain the marriage.
In part 5 of Real Marriage, Pastor Mark preaches a timely message about confession, repentance, and forgiveness. http://marshill.com/media/real-marriage/taking-out-the-trash
A principle of having a healthy marriage as well as healthy relationships, is knowing that sin and Satan, want to steal, kill, and destroy relationships; especially Christian ones. Thankfully we have Jesus as God the Son, who has dealt squarely with our sin problem and provides the solution within the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Though the heavy lifting of our trash (sin) is accomplished in Christ, we still have the responsibility to take out the trash that can pile up and run others off. Another good resource for your study around this continual effort by the grace of God is from Ligonier Ministries. The Respectful Wife

In Elevation's continued sermon series of Real Marriage, Pastor Mark Driscoll address the hot topic of respect. Though the Bible is full of transforming truth, culture has often times handled this one with slippery hands. As quoted in chapter four of Real Marriage book, Grace Driscoll says, “In order to obtain oneness and worship our Lord in our marriage, we need to correctly understand the need for respect. Men and women were created with equal worth but different roles. God created and called the man to lead and love his wife, and when he doesn’t do that in a holy way, he is sinning. God created the woman to help and respect her husband, and when she doesn’t do that in a holy way, she is sinning” (66). “When I am respectful, and he is loving, there is nothing better than the oneness and friendship it creates” (84).  Please take the time to watch this sermon http://marshill.com/media/real-marriage/taking-out-the-trash
